This perennial chrysanthemum is blooming in my garden right now. ‘Matchsticks’ is well-named, the tip of each quilled yellow petal is orange-red and looks like a wooden matchstick. I didn’t pinch this mum back this year and it’s about thirty inches tall now and is just past peak bloom. I think this is one of the prettiest mums I’ve seen. Click to enlarge photos.

Hello,
you posted Chrysanthemum ‘Matchsticks’ on my Pinterest guest board. Thank you!!
Your garden is far away from our Guildwood Garden in Toronto, Canada.
Perhaps you have time for a visit across the border?
Gisela
Gisela,
Yes, I do post to your board and have enjoyed viewing it!
Oh, I wish I could visit, you’re right, it’s a long way.. :) (I did visit your blog, your fall wreath is gorgeous!)
Thanks for stopping by,
Sherry
I love ’em. I’ve seen them in the nurseries but have yet to add it to the yard. They really do look like matchsticks. I have an old timey one called ‘Cotton Candy’ that I just love, med pink with yellow center. It is just starting to bloom this week. My Sheffield Pink and the Global Warming Mum, Purple Mist, has yet to bloom. They are all fully budded though. I am waiting patiently. Something I find hard to do! :-)
Hi Sherry! I’ve visited your blog after 3 or 4 years. Chrysanthemums are my favorite flowers, only because I studied a poem titled ‘Chrysanthemums’ in school. Too bad in India, we don’t have this beautiful flowering plant. I love this ‘matchstick’ variety! Great pictures too. Thank you for brightening up my day with Chrysanthemums! :)
