We reached 90 degrees here today! After more than a week of these unusually hot temps, it is extremely dry here and I had to get out and water all the flower beds today. I have also planted quite a few new perennials, including heuchera, astilbe, brunnera and hardy geraniums and all of those new plantings needed watering as well. To think that only a few days ago, I was impatient for the flowers to start blooming — everything seems to be in bloom now after several days of sunshine.

The first tulip opened today,
many more to come.

Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) flowers began blooming a few days ago.
The woods are filled with these white flowers right now.

I thought my forsythia shrubs were pretty, until I saw this one a few miles away. This is what a forsythia shrub should look like, out in the open in full sun.

Pastel-colored pansies in the lamp post bed.
These little plants bloomed even through the winter.

Flowering Quince. This shrub always blooms sparsely no matter how I prune it.

We’re supposed to cool down to the 70s by the end of the week. Maybe it will feel like spring then instead of early summer.
