We have more Tulip Poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) trees here than any other kind, and it seems as if there’s always something falling from them, year round. Leaves, seed pods by the thousands, twigs and branches, flower petals — and today, I found this entire flower in the secret garden. Pretty, but the flowers are so high in the trees they are not really noticeable.

Hi Sherry,
We too have tulip poplar. I would say it is tied with the third or fourth most numerous on our property. Interestingly enough, the flowers came and went here quite a few weeks ago. I haven’t seen them for at least that long, although they are pretty inconspicuous. My partner loves them so I’ve been barred from even thinking of taking one down! Grrrrr. Oh, and the seed pods that are left over somehow blow around and get stuck in the gutter and break apart into a million pieces over the winter and clog the gutters.
What we put up with for the plants we love!
Hi Jim,
Yes, the blooms are gone here too now. I back-dated this post to a few days ago, but the flowers were gone a couple of wks ago.
Oh my husband hates these trees too! lol We know all about the gutters being clogged with the seed pods, and they get stuck between the boards on the decks and are all over the yard.
We had nine huge poplars taken down earlier this spring, some were 75′ tall. I have full sun now in areas that was mostly shade before. (There are still plenty of them though.)
