On my daily walk today, I went into the woods again. I am usually always looking for wildflowers in these woods but this time a bright red mushroom caught my eye. I started looking for others, and was amazed at the variety of colorful mushrooms and other fungi growing there, on the ground and on fallen trees. Here are quite a few snapshots I took, none of which are of the greatest quality since the light level was so low in these deep woods but still, you can see the wide variety of colors and shapes. Check out the strange black mushrooms in the third row below, they looked like fingers coming out of the log, and are actually called “Dead Man’s Fingers” (Xylaria polymorpha).
