I bought three small plants of Pow Wow Wild Berry Echinacea early this spring, and they have done so well and I like them so much that I went back and bought ten more! These new coneflowers are much shorter (20″-24″ tall) and have more branching and more flowers than other echinacea. The flowers are very intense in color, and the plants are strong and compact, no staking required, even on a slope. I really like them. The first three I bought are planted in the slope bed, and I also got 5 more of the Wild Berry and 5 ‘Pow Wow White’ which I planted in the gazebo bed. The newest ones were tiny little plants I planted on July 1st (yes, in this heat) and they have already put out lots of new growth and flowers and buds (photo at left). I think I’ll be collecting seeds from these this fall so I can spread them around even more next spring.

Very pretty coneflowers. I have to move mine out from under a sprawling climbing rose bush. They don’t stand a chance where they are. I love the deep color and the low branching habit.
Is that another coneflower to the right in the flower bed? The yellow? Looks almost like a helenium.
Thanks, Jim. I like that low branching habit too. I just hope that they don’t come back next year and get 3 or 4 feet tall. I am so tired of staking plants. It seems even the strongest stems won’t stand up after a couple of torrential downpours we have had lately. Hard enough rain to knock everything down, but not enough and over too fast to really water anything.
Oh, that clump to the right is Gallardia ‘Oranges and Lemons’. It does look like helenium now that you mention it.

What a amazing collection of flowers. Seems like heaven. It seems you love nature and draw inspiration from there.
Hi ALisha,
Welcome, and thank you for your comments. It does seem heavenly at times when all the flowers are in bloom. Yes, I do love nature and spring and summer are my favorite times of the year. Thank you for visiting and commenting,

Sherry, you have both a lovely garden and blog. I am happy to have dropped in on you here! StayAtHomeKat in nearby Georgia
Hi Kat,
Thank you!
I saw your post on the microstegium. We sure have that too! Oh, I hate that stuff! (we call it stilt grass or bamboo grass.) I’m constantly pulling it out of my flower beds.

[...] (Echinacea). So far, it’s a definite winner for me. I bought two of these and, like the Pow Wow Coneflowers, the plants were very small when I planted them out in early July. They have grown well and are [...]
My coneflowers are being crowded out too. I do love these. I like the way they stay bright for weeks, it seems like. And also that they require no tying or support.
Hi Christine,
Me too, I love that they last all summer and just keep putting out more flowers. These new Pow Wows are smaller and have such strong branching stems that they haven’t even flopped during a couple of really bad storms we had earlier this summer.
The good thing about them being crowded is that you can always divide and spread them around! :)
