Mountain Laurel blooming
May 11, 2011 by Sherry
The Mountain Laurel (Kalmia latifolia), commonly called “Ivy” here, is one of our most beautiful native shrubs. This shrub is evergreen and frequently grows in thickets, and often becoming tree sized in the woods here. I have this one at the edge of the front yard. It is about 8′ tall and is in full bloom right now.

Nice display of flowers and shrubs! The Mt. Laurel is one of my favorites too. Although just about everything you posted are absolutely beautiful. I found you through my blog, so thanks for stopping by. Looking forward to seeing more through your eyes. I love that you are zones warmer too; it allows me to see the difference between my zone and yours.

The mountain laurel is so beautiful. We had some in the woods next to us in Virginia. I had forgotten about them. Thanks for bringing back that memory.
Hi Lana,
You’re welcome, glad the post brought back a nice memory for you. I love these shrubs, they truly are so pretty. I saw some darker pink ones blooming in the edge of the woods not far from here. Love seeing the woods lit up with their bright flowers.
