Late evening and just after dark is my favorite time of day in the garden. Solar and candle light make the gazebo and parts of the garden glow. Here are some photos I took one evening this week, including the secret garden and gazebo area. Click to enlarge.

Late evening is the prettiest time of day on the lake. We took the boat out around the corner to the main channel to watch the sunset. Click photos to view larger versions.

My husband and I spent a little time on our houseboat out on the lake this week. We live on this lake and it takes about ten minutes to get out there but we haven’t spent as much time there this summer as we should. Weekdays are much less crowded than the weekends this time of year, but it’s still far less serene than it used to be when I was growing up here. Here are a few snapshots I took, click photos to view larger.

I have seen more and more hummingbirds lately, still around the bee balm and especially the crape myrtle which is in full bloom right now. Earlier this spring, I had been using the red premixed nectar and they didn’t seem to like it much. I switched to making plain sugar water and this has attracted many more hummingbirds to my feeders. This one was guarding a small feeder in the Secret Garden. I was sitting on the bench just a few feet away.
