I love this purple Fountain Grass. It has done well this year in my flower beds and also in containers. The deep purple and green foliage and dark reddish blooms of this plant look nice all summer, and now the plumes are drying and it still looks good. While most other varieties of Pennisetum Fountain Grass are perennials in Zones 6-9, this one is an annual. I will definitely be growing this again next year. Click on the photo to enlarge.

This is such an unusual kind of grass. It’s interesting, I found a lovely grass on lake Ozette near the Pacific which was of a purplish hue and very large heads, such as these but not as colorful. I wonder if they would be related.
Hi Quietpaths,
They probably are related. I think there are several different types of fountain grass, most are shades of green. I do like this purple variety, and it looks neat now with the seedheads.
