I am loving these bicolor black-eyed susans (Rudbeckia hirta ‘Sonora’). I have them planted in a new flower bed near the fence in the front yard, along with coneflowers and shasta daisies and I’m hoping they spread and make a large clump next year. These are very large flowers, around 5 inches wide, with deep reddish centers. The plants are hardy in zones 3-9, prefer well-drained soil in full sun, get about 24″ tall, and will reseed freely.

Once again you’ve introduced me to something I’ve never seen before. These must be so lovely out where you have them planted. I have BES out front too. Lovely!
Hi Quietpaths,
I had something similar to these once before but they were annuals. These are perennials, so they’re new to me as well. I love them, and do hope they come back next year.
Those are definitely attention-getters!
Louise, they are a striking color, aren’t they?
gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous!
Hi Tammie,
I agree! I hope they come back next year, bigger and thicker. Thanks for visiting.
Hi, Sherry! I was just browsing through pictures of humming bird moths (which are very beautiful), when I saw your amazing pictures! You got these in low light? That’s amazing! I’m new to blogging, so sorry I did not comment on your pink humming bird page, but I just wanted to say how cute your website is! It is just the most adorable website ever! The pictures and everything are very interesting, and it is nice to see someone so in touch with nature! Keep posting these interesting posts, because it seems you have a lot of readers, including me. Oh and I also love how you personally reply back to everyone who comments. What a nice way to make everyone feel like there opinions on the topic are important, which they are. Anyways, my conclusion is that you have a lovely sight, many people love it, and that you should keep posting these great stories! Have a nice evening!
