(Click any photo to enlarge) With our hot August weather, keeping all my container plantings watered is a daily chore right now. Even with almost 4 days of rain last week, I had to begin daily watering again when our temperatures climbed into the mid-90s a day later. We have been in the 90s all week so far and it is supposed to be even hotter this weekend. Here are some of my containers that are doing well, most filled with easy-to-grow annuals.
It seems I learn something new with every gardening season. One of the lessons I have learned this year is not to plant perennial, mounding lantana in a container. I had no idea the plant would get this big. It has far overgrown this large container (yes, there is a container in there!) and although it is very pretty, it is now growing onto the hot concrete. I’ll be taking this plant out of this container and planting it in the ground at the end of fall. This is one yellow lantana plant planted along with a purple verbena:

Out of all the beautiful flowers you grow which ones are your all around favorites? Which ones would you recommend as “low maintenance” for someone that doesn’t have a green thumb ?
Thank you, Deborah. :) I guess my favorites are the coneflowers, shasta daisies and black-eyed susans. They’re also the easiest to grow, and they come back every year. And, I know you -do- have a green thumb, so you won’t have any problem growing these perennials!
