I have seen quite a few of these hummingbird moths in the yard lately, even including some of the night-flying hummingbird moths at dusk. Here’s another day-flying hummingbird moth, the Snowberry Clearwing (Hemaris diffinis), in one of my flower beds this week. I was able to get very close to this one, and she was quite a bit larger than the clearwing I saw in my yard last week. Click on the photos to view detail in large, desktop sized versions of these.

Hummingbird moth and verbena flowers
-

[...] to add: Here are some larger, clearer photographs of a Snowberry [...]
Does the hummingbird moth go to any of the other flowers besides the butterfly bushes and verbena? I finally got to see one the other day – it was a real treat.
Hi Deborah,
Although I have seen them at the pentas and some of the petunias, they always seem to go back to those purple verbenas and the white butterfly bush. They like the tubular flowers the best.
Thanks for visiting :)
GREAT Photos!!
Thank you, La723.
