Butterflies aren’t the only thing these butterfly bushes attract. I have also seen a hummingbird moth at them several times lately but haven’t been able to get a photo of it yet. Hummingbirds love these flowers as well, and seem especially attracted to this bicolor shrub I have on a sunny slope near the yard. I see them on it throughout the day, up to four at a time. Here are a few photos I captured yesterday morning. Click photos to view larger versions.

Oh my goodness, those are fantastic Sherry. Wonderful photos. You can see the feathers and everything. Amazing.
Thank you, Quietpaths. I enjoy watching them.
Wow what really fantastic, amazing, awesome, breath taking, unbelievable shots….
Spider, LOL — thank you! :-) I’m glad you liked them!
What great photos! Lucky girl. I just wrote a post about not seeing hummingbirds and coincidentally went to your post tonight. Maybe you could give me some tips. I do have a couple of butterfly bushes but still no hummingbirds. Is there a trick to getting them to find your yard? I have plenty of hummingbird friendly plants as well as a feeder in a quiet place surrounded by those forementioned plants. I am at a loss!
Hi Teresa,
Thanks! I have had hummingbirds here since March, and since then have kept four feeders spaced out in my yard and surrounding woods. I have flowers everywhere though and right now they are visiting them much more than the feeders. Along with the butterfly bushes, they are also very attracted to red bee balm and red penta flowers. I know that they are attracted to color instead of scent, so maybe try something large and red to draw them to your feeders, a flag, even artificial flowers or a piece of bright red fabric — just something red to draw them in. Good luck!
Thanks for visiting, and I’ll check out your post as well.
Sherry, awesome photos.I think these birds are enjoying your photo shoots..that’s why they are spending a lot of time there ..:-) …the first one is my favorite..and the pink butterfly bush is very beautiful..that is going to be in my next plant buying list..

Hi Raji,
Thank you. I do so love to watch (and try to capture them with the camera) these tiny little creatures. :)
That butterfly bush is a bicolor called Butterscotch and Raspberry, and I think it’s my favorite so far. The hummingbirds and butterflies seem to love it.
Thanks for stopping by. :)
Color me green with lens envy. These are spectacular photos.
lol, thank you Louise, I appreciate your comments.
