I see these slender insects every day in my yard. These two stayed in a flower bed sunning themselves for a couple of hours the other day and I was able to get several photos of them. According to my Kaufman Field Guide to Insects, these insects are related to dragonflies and are commonly found around water. These are called Blue-fronted Dancers (Argia apicalis), and the male has an extra blue marking on the abdomen (and bright blue eyes).
