bugleweed flowerMy Bugleweed (Ajuga Reptans) has been in bloom for a week or so, and the deep purplish-blue flowers are so pretty. This semi-evergreen, perennial groundcover spreads to form thick mats of purple and green leaves that are about 2 inches tall. In early spring, each plant sends up a flower stalk of around 5 inches tall, filled with deep-purple flowers. The flowers are very attractive to bees, and especially bumblebees. I first noticed the bright green eyes of these bumblebees last year. Click photos to enlarge.
