Plant combinations

Most of my flower beds and containers are jumbles of color and texture, mixtures of plants that catch my eye. Sometimes the combinations work, sometimes they don’t. What do you like to plant together? What flowers or colors make good combinations? These are some of mine that are pleasing to me right now. Click on any photo to enlarge.

Your combinations are wonderful. They look like they came from the greenhouse–or better! That is something I’m not talented with, and don’t have much to play with anyway. But I like lobelia with almost anything. Last year I put it wth the pale orange African Daisies. This year I have it with lantana and dahlies. I’d show you pictures, but my vegetable garden isn’t the only think that isn’t having a stellar season!

    Hi Louise,

Thanks. Lobelia and orange African daisies sounds like a great combination. I love blues and purples with orange. I like to experiment, and some of my combinations have been hideous.. lol

I know what you mean about a less than stellar vegetable garden, ours hasn’t done well at all this summer, but the flowers are doing okay, so far.

All of your combos look amazing and I particularly like the caladium/fern mix. I like using purple and yellow together, and pink and white.

  4. Sherry Says:

Thanks, Leeann. Oh yes, I love to use pink and white together too.

Hi Sherry! I stumbled across your site when googling for snowball shrubs. I’d love to have one, but I have very little full sun in by yard, because of all the oak and pine shade. I was utterly amazed at your hydranga pics. I would love to grow them too, but have not been very sucessful. The snow here just seems to kill them. I live in planting zone eight, and often see the snow kill the blossoms on the fruit trees, but I am persistent in gardening. I love pastels the most. Your pictures are just lovely. If you are able to grow hydranges while in the mountains, let me know your secret! Sles

      Hi Sles,

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed the photos and the post.

We don’t have a lot of snow here at all, and all of my hydrangeas get plenty of sun. I haven’t had any problems growing them here in the mountains — but, we aren’t in the “high” mountains, and again, we don’t have harsh winters here or lots of snow and ice.

Good luck with yours if you decide to get one, they really are gorgeous shrubs!

Thanks again for visiting and for your comments,
      -Sherry
