The butterflies are here all day every day now. There are literally dozens and dozens of them… a few monarchs and many swallowtails, and orange and brown fritillaries. They especially love the penta flowers, the zinnias, the orange and pink lantana flowers, all colors of the dianthus, the pink and white coneflowers, and the white butterfly bush. Wow they are so pretty! Great photos terra, thanks for sharing.
You have them all! I am just beginning to offer what the butterflies want. Next year, I’ll be thrilled, and so will they!
thanks Leeann! :) I love to photograph them, I see them all over the yard and just can’t resist!
Mary, my plain white butterfly bush draws them by the dozens, every day — they love those flowers, and especially the penta flowers. I know you too will enjoy attracting and watching them.
what kind of butterfly is the blue, black and white one?
the one on top of the page
anonymous, it is a female Diana Fritillary, a very rare butterfly that is only seen in a limited area of the US. We have them here every year, usually in August and September (this year, I started seeing them in June!). If you’re interested, here are a couple more posts about this butterfly, including some better photos of it:
