Hi Ricky,

Good for you for feeding them. Since they're old enough to eat on their own, they should be okay as long as you continue feeding them. The mother cat is probably close by somewhere.

Feed them regularly for a few days, and then try to get them to play or just keep spending time around them. That's what I did with ours, I tied a cat toy onto a string and dangled it for the two kittens here -- and they couldn't resist it for long, they started chasing and playing with it.

Make sure there isn't any standing water in the boat, or anything they could get hurt on or tangled up in. Continue giving them fresh food and water every day and spending time trying to play with them-- and hopefully you will be able to tame them soon. The younger they are, the easier it should be.

Good luck! :)

We have an old boat in our backyard and a few hours ago I found 2 stray baby kittens lying in the boat hidden in the back, so I put some food out and they ate it. But I can't get near them, they get scared. And I haven't seen a Mother cat yet either.

Any ideas on what I should do? I'm 14yrs old.

If anymore show up, you might want to check with Alley Cat Allies, http://www.alleycat.org, for low-cost spay/neuter alternatives to your full-service vet.

Thanks, faeatore. "Butter" would be a great name! Unfortunately, the yellow cat disappeared a few months ago. The black one stayed though, and I named him "Max". :)

Hi nouveaufauves,

I agree-- it's terrible when people dump out animals. Where we live seems to be a favorite place for that.

I've used the bell collars also, and will definitely be getting those for these cats too. I don't want to see them killing birds. Starving cats doing it is another thing, I can understand that, but these cats are very well fed. :)

Thanks for your comments, I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. :)

What lucky cats! I have a problem with people who put pets out on the side of the road to fend for themselves. If they survive, they often seriously interfere with the native animal population. Catching a few field mice doesn't bother me but a nest full of baby mockingbirds leaves me incensed. I have two cats that I adore. I try to keep them "belled". They love to hunt, however, and are sometimes successful, bell or no bell. Your photographs of your kitties are waaaaaaaay better than mine. I enjoyed looking at them. thank you for sharing them.

Hi Leeann, oh yes they seem to be happy. Still won't let me touch either of them though, and of course the mama-kitty still runs when I try to pet her, but, yes, they seem happy enough, they love all the toys and cat beds all over the porch.. and all the tuna and kitten chow! lol

Thank you Mary. I don't know what we are going to do with all these cats! lol We've had -just- dogs for years (plus the one outdoor cat for the past few yrs).. now it looks like we're going to have both, and plenty of them. They are little darlings though, and I sure wish I could tame them. I'm already wondering how in the world we are going to catch them to have them spayed in October. Everytime hubby brings out the trap, they disappear!

"Hungy Man".. hmm.. but I'm not sure yet if it's a "he". Oh I hope so! lol

Thanks for visiting, Mary.

Definitely NOT stray cats anymore :o) This story tickled me and I admire your generosity for the welfare of those lovely little furballs. There was a time when I would have done the same...now, with two Boston Terriers, I shoo away kitties. Before dogs, we were a three-cat household!

My sister-in-law had a very large yellow tabby and called him "Hungry Man".

Your pictures are superb.
