Performances May 1, Bon Jovi Week

*First up: Phil Stacey, singing “Blaze of Glory”. I thought it was very, very good. He can definitely sing, and seems to get better every week. I hope he gets a record contract, regardless of how far he goes on American Idol.

*Second performance: Jordin Sparks, singing “Livin’ On a Prayer”. I thought this was the worst performance of the night, and her worst performance so far in the competition. I like Jordin, but at just 17 years old, I think she has the least to lose by getting voted out now– she has plenty of time for “second chances”.

*Third: Lakisha Jones, singing “This Ain’t a Love Song”. She did good, much better than her last two performances. I like Lakisha and hope she has much success.

*Fourth up: Blake Lewis, singing (and beatboxing) “You Give Love a Bad Name”. This was awesome! Best performance of the night, and I agree with Randy– it was the most original performance ever on American Idol. Although technically, he may not be the best singer there this year, he is the best performer, and the most fun. I still think he’s the most commercial, and would probably sell more than any of the others.

*Fifth: Chris Richardson, “Wanted Dead or Alive”. Although Chris isn’t in the same league as Chris Daughtry, who performed this song last season, this is the first time I’ve actually liked his singing. I also think it was his strongest performance of the season. Unfortunately, I think he’s going home this week anyway..

*Performing last tonite: Melinda Doolittle, the resident pro, did “Have a Nice Day”. Is there anything this girl can’t sing? Awesome, as usual.

My rankings for tonite:
1. Blake
2. Melinda
3. Phil
4. Lakisha
5. Chris
6. Jordin

I think Phil and Chris will probably go home. (or Chris and Lakisha?) I think it should be Chris and Jordin.

Every season, when it gets down to the last 5 or 6 contestants, I’m always sad to see any of them go…
